Small Percussion English Muff Pistol, marked (William) Abbey (of High Street) in Newport Pagnell, in Buckinghamshire, where he sold pistols from 1829 to 1851. He was succeeded by his son Edmund (1852-1869). Abbey's was a typical small town gun shop that also sold cutlery and similar items. The pistol itself was probably mfg'd in Birmingham. Pistol is .31 cal., 1-1/4'' screw barrel, centerhammer with tang safety, and wooden bag grips. Condition is very good with light general patina and very minor darkening to one-piece grips. Hammer with loss above bottom edge. Action is crisp, touch hole is clear. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
