Slim Keith Signed Postcard
Slim Keith Signed Postcard - Nancy "Slim" Keith, was a legendary New York socialite and fashion "jet setter" icon during the 1950s and 1960s. She was the thinly veiled inspiration for the main character in Truman Capote's novel "Answered Prayers". When she was 16 she ran away from home and was soon partying on the West Coast with actor William Powell, along with newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst and his mistress Marion Davies. Slim was frequently seen at parties with Gary Cooper and Cary Grant. She was pursued by Clark Gable, as well as Ernest Hemingway. In 1938 she met Howard Hawks, the famous film director. He fell instantly in love with her and left his long marriage for her. However in three years they were divorced and she moved in with Hemingway, where she met the famous Hollywood and Broadway agent and producer Leland Hayward (best known for staging "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music"). They ended up married for over 12 years and became the darlings of both Coasts. This is an extremely rare postcard written by Slim to actor Van Johnson and his wife from their vacation in Santa Barbara. It is addressed and written by Slim (who signs it "Leland & Slim"), and postmarked October 19th, 1953. It includes the original two-cent stamp. This rare signed Nancy "Slim" Keith postcard comes from Van Johnson’s personal collection, and includes a Letter of Provenience from the Johnson’s daughter, Schuyler Johnson along with a copy of her famous controversial cover story article “My Life As A Hollywood Princess”, about her trials and tribulations growing up in Beverly Hills with a superstar father and extended “family” with some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
