Sleepy Eye, MN - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The First NB Ch. # (M)6387
A lovely Red Seal from one of the most sought after locations in the country. Every "name" collector of National Bank Notes aspires to own a note from Sleepy Eye, and those who are serious about owning the best want to own a high grade Red Seal from here. The town takes its name from Chief Sleepy Eye, a Sioux leader who met with President James Monroe in 1824 and was instrumental in agreeing to a treaty giving up much of the Sioux land in western Minnesota. A dozen or so Red Seals have been reported on this bank for at least fifty years, with appearances now limited to occasions when old time collections are dispersed. Track and Price shows two such notes being offered at public sale during the past ten years, which seems about right to us. This piece is a pen signed beauty, with the classic Sleepy Eye vanity signature of the cashier. Bright About Uncirculated, a real winner of a note.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
