Rare 18th century iron slave shackles, used on ships to prohibit slaves from moving around or to manacle two slaves by the ankles together. The 11.25” long shackle opens to a size of 2.5” x 2.5”; likely used on a woman or child judging from its size. Deaccessioned from a museum and includes a letter of authenticity. Light rusting, otherwise in very good condition.
