"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Collection of 38 ''weekly summaries'' from the Sirhan Sirhan trial, from 12 June 1968 to 12 March 1969, published by the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. Each release begins: ''Because of widespread interest in the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy in the Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 5, 1968, and upcoming proceedings in court, the office of Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Evelle J. Younger is publishing a weekly summary…'' Portions of the releases include: (1) ''…Sirhan, hand-cuffed and surrounded by officers, was led out of the Hall of Justice court and transferred to the County Central Jail…'' (2) ''…the political figure's life may have been spared had the fatal bullet struck him less than half an inch closer to the midline of the skull…He revealed that Sirhan spends his days reading, mostly books on occultation; is not dissatisfied with the representation of the public defender; is a member of a Protestant religious group; has access to newspapers, but doesn't want to read them…Sirhan…is a recent member of the Rosicrucian Order, a group which expounds a philosophy based on study of metaphysics and development of psychic powers, it was learned today. From his County Central Jail, Sirhan requested two books on theosophy…'' (3) ''…We'll never be able to prevent an assassin with a high-powered rifle making a 'lucky' shot and killing a candidate, but we ought to be able to prevent an assassin from getting within a few feet of a candidate…'' (4) ''…On Tuesday, June 18, Sirhan requested a visit with the consul of Jordan. Arrangements were made for the local representative of Jordan, George Zraikat, to visit with Sirhan…Parsons [Sirhan's lawyer] said he might seek the tests to determine if the 24-year old Jordanian immigrant was biologically predestined to kill…'' (5) ''…Sirhan said he first learned of Kennedy's support for Israel last May and that he hated the senator so much that 'if he were in front of me, the way I felt then, so help me God, he would have died'…'' (6) ''…The death penalty looms large in the preparations of the District Attorney's case against Sirhan…This was revealed by Lynn D. Compton, Chief Deputy District Attorney, who heads the three-man team charged with prosecuting Sirhan…'' (7) ''…judge said that Los Angeles police did have the authority to enter the Sirhan home in Pasadena on June 5, where nine items, which Parsons wanted suppressed, were taken…The items…included three notebooks, an envelope labeled 'U.S. Treasury Department,' a film strip of the accused assassin, a torn piece of cardboard with writing in pencil, an honorable discharge from the 'California Cadet Corps,' an envelope with business cards of two doctors and another envelope containing boxes labeled 'Hoppes gun cleaning patches' and 'nitro powder salt No. 9.'…'' (8) ''…The 'mental makeup' of Sirhan…will probably be the prime issue in the Dec. 9 trial…It doesn't take much of a guess to assume that the defendant's mental make-up will be a prime consideration. In any homicide, the end result is the same -- a death -- but the real issue is the state of mind of the slayer…Compton told Kleiner that the District Attorney's office has hired a psychiatrist to observe Sirhan in court, but under state law, the prosecution's psychiatrist may not examine the defendant without his permission. No such permission has been granted…'' (9) ''…Sirhan's murder case has cost Los Angeles taxpayers $370,416…Both Sirhan and his mother, Mrs. Mary Sirhan, took the witness stand in his murder trial today, and were questioned about the family's financial condition…'' (10) ''…On the day of the shooting, Sirhan spent most of the time at the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, and told another club patron he was going to use his gun for hunting. 'It could kill a dog,' Fitts said Sirhan told a witness who will testify later in the trial…Sirhan told Jess Unruh, former State Assembly speaker, he shot Kennedy 'for my country.'…'' (11) ''…Sirhan rose from his chair to protest the opening statement of his own defense counsel Friday, as attorney Emile Zola Berman described him as an 'immature, emotionally disturbed and mentally ill youth'…Berman added that his client 'admired and loved' the Senator and killed the Senator when 'he was out of contact with reality, in a trance in which he had no voluntary control over his will, his judgment, his feelings or his actions.' The attorney said the killing was 'unplanned and undeliberate; impulsive and without premeditation or malice, totally a product of a sick, obsessed mind and personality'…'' (12) ''…Sirhan: 'I killed Robert F. Kennedy willfully, premeditatedly, with 20 years of malice aforethought, that is why.' Walker: 'Well, the evidence has to be produced in court.' Sirhan: 'I withdraw all evidence, sir.' Walker: 'There is no such procedure.' Sirhan: 'To hell with it.'…'' Typed weekly reports of various page lengths are on 8.5'' x 11'' sheets, stapled at top left. Lot also includes a table of contents summarizing each weekly report. Near fine.
