Scottish novelist and poet (1771–1832) best known for such classics as Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, and Waverley. ALS, one page, 7.25 x 9, April 4, 1820. Letter to major Macdonald of the Royal Artillery. In part: “It grieves me much to say that having been so long absent from town and my stay being so short I have got it indispensably filled with engagements which prevent my seeing the rolling party which would have afforded me much entertainment. I trust to have an opportunity to shake hands with you at Woolrich.” Tape repairs to reverse of intersecting folds on both pages, one affecting first letter of signature, and scattered toning and foxing, otherwise very good condition. An amicable letter from the year of the release of Ivanhoe.
