Sir John Floyer: The History of Cold-Bathing, Both Ancient and Modern with an appendix by Dr. Edward Baynard (London, William and John Innes, 1722), fifth edition, 520 pages, half-leather binding with gold lettering and marbled boards, 12 mo (5.25” x 7.75”). Sir John Floyer (1649-1734) was an Oxford-educated English physician who treated the fabled Dr. Samuel Johnson in their home town of Litchfield. An advocate of cold bathing as a treatment for a variety of diseases, Floyer also introduced the concept of taking the pulse and developed early research on respiratory ailments, including emphysema and asthma. A bookplate has been attached inside the front cover. The book is in very good condition: the paper has minor to moderate signs of acidification; the leather binding has moderate wear.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
