Scottish social anthropologist (1854–1941) influential in the early stages of the modern studies of mythology and comparative religion. ALS signed “J. G. Frazer,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 3.5, personal letterhead, April 19, 1917. In part: “I thank you for your kindness in sending me your notes on ‘Balder’ [a Norse god]. I was not acquainted with the interesting details you give as to the ‘Palio’ at Siena. You may be right in your suggestion as to the horse-shoeing of the poor woman, but after all it is perhaps more likely that it was merely a ruffian’s brutal jest.” In fine condition, with light scattered soiling and some trivial edge wear. Interesting reference to the famed Italian horse race, Palio di Siena.
