Sir High Plat: Delights For Ladies (London: H.L. and R.Y., 1630), full title is: Delights for Ladies to adorne their persons, table, closets and distillatories with beauties, banquet, perfumes and waters. This tiny cookbook is really a wonder to behold. The fact that a book was produced for strictly women during this period is interesting, and the fact that it still survives is a wonder indeed. A few sections of the book are entitled: "The Art of Preserving, consuming, candying, etc.; Secrets in distillation; Cookery and Huswifery, etc. In good condition; vellum has warped and cracked over time; light toning on covers and pages; pages slightly browned; inscribed on the inside cover as: "Elizabeth Rogers her booke 1655", pencil notations on several pages. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
