Sir Arthur Brumwell Thomas A pair of Gothic revival brass candelabrum, made for Stockport Town Hall circa 1904, each with pierced coronets supported by leafy scrolling brackets with moulded glass fruits raised on a wrythen column with moulded knops with scrolling brackets and raised above an octagonal moulded and ebonised base with incised gilded leafy decoration(2) 220cm high Note: Stockport Town Hall was built in 1904, following the formation of Stockport Municipal Borough in the late 19th century. The 'wedding cake' Town Hall as it is known, because of its white facade and high tiered clock tower was the concept of architect Sir Brumwell Thomas. In addition to designing the building, Brumwell Thomas undertook the project of designing all the interior decoration and furniture. The candelabrum were designed to line the corridor leading to the main hall, which Sir John Betjeman described as 'that magnificent hall', where they have remained until recently. £4,000-6,000
