Sioux Tomahawk, Beaded Pendant with Horsetrack Designs
Circa 1870
Length 46 in. overall; Length 9 1/2 in. the blade

This hand forged iron blade is of the classic western Plains form, likely fabricated from an old gun barrel. The blade is fitted to an ash wood handle decorated with nine brass tacks. A decorative beaded drop is secured to the handle by a section of fringed hide and red wool braid. The triangular shaped pendant is beaded with a series of horse tracks in navy blue against the light blue background. Twisted hide fringe, four brass hawk bells, and a piece of red wool trade cloth with white selvage finish the ornament. The hide is backed with calico.

Provenance
Tom Haas, Riverton, Utah
