The lot features a beaded Indian tanned hide covered parfleche sheath with beadwork in the style of the Sioux Native American Indians with a custom skinning knife. The knife, a handmade custom piece shows a Buffalo skinning blade which has been uniquely polished and shows a front finger groove and serrated back section for grip. The handle shows a Montana Mule Deer antler which shows carved finger grooves along with solid brass heel or bolser and pommel which is accented by stacked harness leather. The sheath shows a parfleche rawhide construction which is accented by the Indian tanned hide having a nice ocher mineral patina and thin fringe. The front shows all glass trade seed beads in a geometric pattern showing such colors as Cheyenne pink, cobalt, red white hearts, blue white hearts and semi-transparent light turquoise aqua. The sheath is made in the style and manner of the 19th Century Sioux people with a later date. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery. The knife measures 8 3/8”L with a 3 ¾”L blade. The sheath is 18”L with the top strap and fringe by 5”W with the side fringe.
