The piece comes from a private Missouri museum collection and features an early Sioux Native American Indian carved horse effigy lance or spear. The piece is from circa 1850-1890 and shows overall good well preserved condition. Said to have been made by Sioux Indian named, "Running Horse". The piece shows a carved wood staff or lance stem with the top showing a horse head effigy having the horse hair mane wrapped around the top with the forged spontoon like blade coming out of the mouth. The piece shows a wood handle with a horse head effigy carving attached to a long forged blade with rawhide strapping and solid brass trade tacks. The base of the lance has a carved horses hoof and would leaf a horse shoe shaped mark when pressed into the ground. The entire piece has a red like mineral dye over the wood an on the early wrapped trade clothe. The head effigy has been professionally repair and has wonderful detail. Overall the piece measures 70.5” L with a 7” L x ¾” W spearhead blade. The blade is held into place with trade nails. From the same collection as the
