Tobacco Bag and Pipe Stem with Bowl:
a) Sioux pipe bag decorated with a large beaded panel in classic Sioux geometric designs and colors. Horsehair-stuffed tin cones and quill-wrapped slats terminating in fringe. 30" overall. Repair toward the top.
b) Catlinite pipe bowl with pewter inlaid T-style head 6" x 3", with a 19 1/2" carved stem

Includes copy of signed letter from consignor attesting to the collection history and its acquisition.

Jack Hawes (1877-1950)
John H. Hawes was a travelling salesman out of Alliance, Nebraska. Employed first by Freemont Saddlery, which became Harpham Brothers Saddlery and Harness, Jack’s sales territory was comprised of historic cowboy and Indian areas, where he collected artifacts primarily between the 1890s and 1930s.
