This is a rare Sioux Native American Indian Gunstock & Spontoon War Club with round trade mirrors inlaid on both sides and is from circa 1870’s. The piece features a gunstock wood war club haft with trade brass tacks accenting the entire piece and has a Revolutionary War (1775-1783) Colonial American Spontoon style blade (spontoon heads were used during the Revolutionary War by the Americans in trench defense against charging British infantry or cavalry). The blade is held into place with lead or pewter and is a wonderful forged iron piece showing some pitting. The war club also includes three trade mirrors inlaid on both sides (six total), this is very rarely seen in War Clubs. The piece is from circa 1870 and shows an overall very well preserved museum quality condition. Provenance: This is from a very large Native American Indian artifact private collection in France. Measures overall 32.25”L x 13 5/8”W with a 6.75”L x 1 5/8”W spontoon blade.
