The lot features an excellent early gunstock & spontoon war club from the Sioux Native American Indians. The piece features a gunstock wood frame with brass tacks accenting both sides and has a Revolutionary War (1775-1783) Colonial American Spontoon style blade (the hand forged spike spontoon head was used during the Revolutionary War by the Americans in trench defense against charging British infantry or cavalry). The gunstock wood haft shows a rich deep patina and grain with excellent teepee carved accents across the top of both sides. The gunstock also features 102 brass trade tacks in a fantastic design. The piece is from the 19th century (1800-1850) and shows an overall well preserved museum quality condition. Provenance: This is from a large Native American Indian private collection in Pendleton, Oregon. Measures overall 27 5/8"L x 10.5"W with a 5 1/8"L x 1.75"W spontoon blade showing a double notch.
