The lot features a fantastic, circa 1800’s, beaded sheath and trade knife from the Sioux Native American Indians. The sheath shows a stiff Indian tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide parfleche with amazing traditional geometric beadwork in all period correct 1800’s glass trade seed cen beads. The beadwork includes seed and petit beads in colors of greasy yellow, greasy blue, rose, medium green, butterscotch yellow, Cheyenne pink, semi-translucent, sky padre light blue, red white hearts, green, and more. The hide shows a yellow ocher mineral pigment coloring and beaded base fringe. At the top is the original belt tie strap. The bag overall is sinew sewn. The bag is accompanied with an early trade knife with typical skinner blade and two piece hardwood grip scales that are held into place with metal studs. Provenance: From the largest American Indian Antiquities collection in Montana, where it was found to be an authentic pre-1890 example. The sheath is 12 inches long with bottom fringe by 3 inches wide. The knife is 10.25 inches long with a 5 7/8 inch long blade.
