Sioux Chief's Triple Tab Beaded Pipe Bag 20th C.
This is a very large, “Chief’s” triple-tab beaded hide pipe bag from the Northern Plains Sioux from the 20th Century. The bag is comprised of tanned hide with a long, large bag covered in glass trade seed beads with a classic Sioux geometric pattern. At the base shows two rows of triple-tabs (three on each side) which are tanned hide with a triangle long taper, beaded with a rope beaded bundle of hide fringes. The fringes have rolled tin jingle dangle cones with red and yellow dyed horse tail hairs. The beadwork extends on both sides and along the top.

The bag is very similar in design to the Sioux 1890 pipe bag with triangular beaded taps below the beaded panel from the Joseph henry Sharp collection in the Gilcrease Museum showing the same classic geometric pattern with the triple-tabs below.

This bag is from the mid-to-late 20th Century and is well kept with soft hides and little to no bead loss. Measures overall 41”L from top belt strap to bottom of fringes by 4.75”W at the belly.
