The lot features a fine beaded stone headed skullcracker war club from the Sioux Native American Indians and dating to circa early 1900’s. The piece shows a quartz stone head showing a pink-ish white coloring with black speckling, quartz is considered to be sacred. The head is secured to the wood haft handle with a wrap of parfleche rawhide which is accented by Indian tanned hide fringe at the top with sinew wrapped red feathers. The haft shows a rawhide parfleche wrapping which is sinew sewn and shows Indian tanned hide wrappings being glass trade seed beaded in a linear geometric pattern in colors such as chalk white, cobalt, sky padre light blue, butterscotch yellow, green and a crazy beaded section. At gripping area shows a wrapping of Buffalo Indian tanned hide that is trade cotton sewn and shows a typical drop of beadwork in a triangular design with beadwork in greasy yellow, cobalt, chalk white and red. The end of the drop shows Indian tanned hide hand cut fringe. The war club shows a very good well preserved condition and measures overall 27”L and the head is 3.25”x2.25”x2”.
