Sioux Beaded Sheath & Inlaid Trade Knife c. 1890
The lot features a circa 1890 wonderfully beaded Buffalo hide knife sheath with inlaid pewter trade knife attributed to the Sioux Native American Indians of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The sheath is beaded in the styling and colors of the 1890’s reservation period. The sheath shows beadwork in chalk white, butterscotch yellow, red, and dark blue along with a small fringed beaded drop hanging off the bottom of the piece. The knife accompanying the sheath features a dark walnut grip with elaborate pewter silver inlaid geometric pattern and is 6.75”L. The piece was likely a teenage boy or young Brave’s knife set. This is a fine authentic, period correct example showing very good condition with little to no bead loss. The sheath measures 6.5”L x 2.25”W,
