Sioux Beaded Sheath & Early J. Russell Trade Knife
This is a beautiful beaded leather and parfleche lined sheath attributed to the Sioux with an earlier J. Russell trade knife. The trade knife is a J. Russell & Co. Green River Works clip point trade knife with two piece hardwood dark grips and poured pewter hilt. The blade has a dark color, this appears to be an old frontier example. This is paired with a later sheath comprised of thick saddle leather sinew sewn and adorned with geometric glass trade seed beadwork. The inside has a parfleche rawhide lining with sinew sewing. The entire sheath has a dark green dye. The beadwork is in typical Sioux pattern with chalk white background and color in red white heart, greasy light blue, cobalt. The top of the knife has a twisted hide belt tie. Nice early frontier knife with later sheath. Sheath is 14.75”L by 3 5/8”W. Knife is 12.5”L.
