Sioux Beaded Hide Pipe Bag Late Reservation Period
The lot features an Indian hide beadwork pipe tobacco bag from the Northern Plains Native American Indians, attributed to the Sioux and the late Indian Reservation Period. The piece is comprised of Indian tanned hide with glass trade seed beads in a geometric typical Sioux pattern, with a white background and pattern in maroon, light blue, dark blue navy. The beadwork wraps around the bottom section (front and back) and runs up on the outside edge, along with a fancy beaded top edge. The bag has thick Buffalo Indian hide tie at the top with solid brass round trade beads. The bottom shows long thick Buffalo Indian hide fringes. The hide is very supple and the bag shows little to no bead loss. The piece likely dates to the mid-1900’s with a wonderful turn of the century styling. Measure overall 22” L by 4.75” W.
