Sioux Beaded Hide Parfleche Sheath & 19th C. Knife
The lot features a nice beaded hide and parfleche lined Sioux sheath paired with an old 19th-century trade knife. The sheath shows a thick parfleche rawhide inside lining which is covered in Indian tanned hide which is then further covered in glass trade early 1900's period seed beads in a classic Sioux geometric design. The colors show greasy blue, Cheyenne pink, cobalt, red white heart. greasy yellow and semi-transparent dark green. The beadwork is sewn with cotton thread. The bottom shows Indian hide fringes with three wound glass trade beads and two rolled tine jingle dangle cones, the top has an Indian tanned belt tie. The knife exhibits a classic trade knife, skinning style blade with two piece wood grip. This 1800's trade knife has some heavy wear. The sheath has nice early beads and has a nice early vintage age. The sheath and knife measures 15.25-inches long. Sheath by itself without fringes is 7 3/8-inches long by 2.25-inches wide. Knife is 9.75-inches long.
