This is a finely beaded hide covered Buffalo horn ceremonial cup from the 19th Century Sioux Native American Indians. The piece, likely from the Teton Lakota Sioux, shows a Buffalo Bison horn which has a band of Indian tanned hide at the top set off by the long hide fringe and wonderful geometric beadwork. The beadwork shows a typical geometric pattern of the Sioux all in period correct 1800’s glass trade seed beads showing a chalk white background with fancy border or greasy light blue, cobalt, and greasy yellow with pattern in medium green, greasy yellow, cobalt, red white hearts (in a tipi like triangular pattern). The piece would have been used as a cup in ceremonies and is in fine condition giving its late 1800’s age. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 11”L by 4”x3.5”W and D.
