Single barrel tap action flintlock center hammer pistol signed Briscoe with British proofs iron frame bag shape grips probably for superimposed loads. The pistol measures 7 ¼” overall with a 2 ¾” barrel of .41 caliber false rifled. The breech end of the barrel and frame measure about 1 ¾” leaving room for two (2) loads. The superimposed load idea did not work well and this is the only example of a tap action single barrel withtwo stages for firing that we have cataloged. The metal surfaces show a dark patina and light to moderate pitting and erosion with good engraving and very good grips showing normal age. There are some marks on barrelfrom key. From an old N.Y.
