Signed book: Main Street. First edition. NY: Harcourt, Brace and Howe, 1920. Hardcover, 5.25 x 7.5, 451 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page, “To Mrs. William T. Hamilton with Christmas greetings from [Lou M. Kirchner] and her obedient disciple, Sinclair Lewis, Washington, D. C., Dec. 21, 1920,” with the inscription whimsically crafted to include the name of the book’s owner, Lou M. Kirchner. Autographic condition: uniform light toning to signed page, and some slight dampstaining along top, otherwise fine. Book condition: G/None. Black cloth-covered boards; mild wear to edges; portion of the title on spine rubbed off, along with the edges of the ink on front; heavy water-damage to upper portion of boards, spine, and first several pages, with additional staining along upper edge and hinges of remainder of the textblock (few stains along fore-edge as well); front hinge cracked, with front cover loosely attached; rear hinge partially cracked; light scattered foxing to endpapers; previous seller’s sticker to front pastedown.
