Sinclair H-C Gasoline Porcelain Sign c. 1926-30's
This is a rare original Sinclair H-C Gasoline Large porcelain enamel advertising sign. The sign dates to circa 1926-1930's and shows a heavy porcelain enamel over metal construction with bright graphics and original finish. In 1926 Sinclair introduced H-C Gasoline, the industry's first original high-octane premium gasoline for motorcars. The 72-octain auto fuel, developed at its Houston refinery, was better than anything on the market. H-C stood for "Houston Concentrate", though the advertising men called it "High Compression". The single sided sign shows an all original finish with NO touch ups. The sign is in very good condition with slight chipping, but an overall clear field with bright glossy colors. The sign reads, "SINCLAIR H-C GASOLINE" with the bottom of the sign being marked, "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." The sign is 48 inches in diameter. The early original Sinclair H-C Gasoline Porcelain signs have sold at auction in excess of $6,500.
