Simon Lake Manuscript Archive. Written in pencil on ruled sheets, 40+ pages, 8" x 12.5", circa early-1940s. A prolific inventor and true visionary, Simon Lake (1865-1945) is credited with developing the modern submarine. His earliest efforts in the 1890s were inspired by the fiction of Jules Verne and these evolved into the practical fighting subs of the two world wars. Submarines nevertheless had detractors and Lake responded with an essay offered here that he titled "In Defense of the Submarine." This group also includes an illustrated treatise on "unsinkable" ships and a second manuscript extolling the virtues of the sub. Yellowing as expected with minor creases and stains. Still quite legible on stock that has maintained its integrity through the years. Very good condition.

Important notice:<
