Simon Cameron ALS
Lincoln’s First Secretary of War, Simon Cameron Autograph Letter Signed “Simon Cameron”. One page, 7.5” x 9.75”, October 13, 1851, to “Col. Frazer”, toned with the usual fold creases, some ink smears, else very good. A letter with much Pennsylvania political content. Cameron appears to goad Frazer into strong arming people to defeat “Campbell”. He writes in part: “Campbell will run behind. Indeed if your county does right, he will be defeated and there will be no more trouble with Mr. Buchn. Will you call on Mr. Amworke and remind him of that…I saw Dr. Shaffer of Eliz. Last Monday and today. I have seen Jacob Hamilton of Bainbridge. They will both help you carry Lancaster Co… If Campbell is defeated we will have easy work.” Cameron was forced from the position of Secretary of War under a cloud of corruption. Ex. Henry E. Luhrs Collection.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
