Simon Boerum, Autograph Document (Signed)
Simon Boerum Autograph Document Signed in the third person within the body of the four page document, 7.75" x 13", Brooklyn, New York, May 14 to August 24, 1768, being the Last Will and Testament of Weynant Bennet and entirely in Boerum's hand. Bennet appoints Boerum as one of the three executors of the will. Simon Boerum was a New York member of the Continental Congress in 1774 and 1775. A particularly cold February of 1775 left him ill and he left Philadelphia for his home in New York where he died in July without the opportunity to sign the Declaration the following July. Truly one of the rarest of all members of the Continental Congress to obtain; none found in 30 years of auction records. Very good condition. Originally purchased from Walter Benjamin Autographs in 1951, still has Mary Benjamin's handwritten pencil notation "All in hand of Simon Boerum MAB 1946". Typewritten transcript included. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
