<B>Cased Silver Suydam Medal, National Academy of Design</B></I> - 63mm, the obverse has a bust of James Augustus Suydam facing right with 1870 and SUYDAM around; the reverse has NATIONAL ACADEMY OF DESIGN * NEW YORK *, inside, a wreath of laurel and oak, the center engraved ANTIQUE SCHOOL/DAY CLASS - HEAD/ROSE KING/1932. The medal is marked MEDALLIC ART CO.N.Y. SILVER on the rim. The obverse was designed by Anthony C. Paquet. Suydam (1819-1865) showed work at the National Academy of Design for the first time in 1856, becoming an Academician himself five years later. Soon elected to the Academy's governing body, he served until his death, raising money for the Academy's first home on Fourth Avenue and 23rd Street.
