Gujarat in Rebellion during Mughal period, Silver Kori, AH 969, most likely struck at Junagarh during the rule of Amin Khan Ghori, In the name of Shams ud-din Muzaffar III, Sultan of Gujarat, Obv: Arabic legend "al-mu'ayyad bi-ta'yid al-Rahman shams ud dunya wa'l din abu'l Nasr", Rev: Arabic legend "Muzaffar Shah al-Sultan", with Nagari legend "षा अमी.." (Sha(n) Ami(n)) below Muzaffar, 4.4g, 16.19mm, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare.
Note: In 1561 AD, when Muzaffar III acceded to Gujarat's throne, the Sultanate had practically been fragmented with local nobles ruling independently across different parts of the Sultanate. In Saurashtra, Tatar Khan Ghori had taken over the reins of power. It was his son, Amin Khan Ghori, who succeeded him as the independent ruler of Saurashtra. While Amin Khan managed affairs for nearly a decade, he was forced to relinquish power to Akbar after the first conquest of Gujarat by Akbar in 1573. The son of Amin Khan, Daulat Khan Ghori, fought on the side of Muzaffar III against the Mughals at the famous battle of Bhuchar Mori in 1591, where Muzaffar was defeated and Gujarat was officially conquered by the Mughals.
The legend on this coin reads 'Khan Amin' (the letter * being pronounced as 'Kh') and there is no doubt that it refers to Amin Khan who is the person depicted. As a matter of fact, it is quite likely that he initiated this coinage as soon as he inherited his father's office, using Muzaffar III's designs as the prototype. Although the exact date is unknown, it is believed that it occurred in the 1565-1570 years. It is most likely that the date AH969 on the coin refers to the enthronement of Muzaffar III.
