Silver & Copper 'Half-Breed'
SILVER & COPPER 'HALF-BREED'
Silver Cliff Mine, Keweenaw County, Michigan
Unique to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and corresponding areas of Canada across Lake Superior are masses of silver and copper referred to as 'half-breeds'. These consist of crystalline intergrowths of these two metals, usually of a reniform habit except when found underground as is the case here. This example shows several medium-sized silver crystals partially over coated with crude copper crystals. The luster grades from shiny, bright, water-white on the silver, then abruptly shifting to the copper with a buffed saddle leather look. There is a small amount of quartz associated. The piece measures 2 inches by 1 ¾ inches by 2 inches. It is accompanied by a label from Don Olson Minerals. In addition it bears a collection number of 108AT from the Ed David Collection. In fine condition.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
