Later edition (includes prefaces to the second and third editions). Volume I only (of five). Written on the title page in the hand of Elizabeth Custer: “G.A. Custer, Notes by G.A.C., See page 192.” Additionally signed on the title page by Custer's wife: “E.B. Custer.” Annotated and marked by General Custer on page 192 with a word and parentheses marks, other marks in the book, most consisting of underlines, shoulder lines and parentheses, by an unidentified hand. On several occasions there are brief notes of a few words in the shoulder margin. Octavo (6.5” x 4.5”). 290, 2, publisher's ads pp. Publisher's reddish-brown cloth lettered and decorated in black. Cloth is faded and heavily rubbed, with some evidence of water damage. Sheets are very clean and fresh.
