Unusual and beautiful does not begin to describe this hand made late 18th C- early 19th C. walnut chest with walnut burl panels edged in black used throughout. Round panels on each of the top three drawers have inlay of fruitwood and boxwood. Key hole and lock in each with no keys. Each depicts different musical instruments with floral and birds including a mandolin and harp. The fourth drawer is actually a secret drawer with no hardware and appears to be a heavily carved bottom apron. Reaching under the carving opens the drawer. The other three are adorned with ornate brass back plate and heavy black wood pulls. Top drawer divided. Additional heavy floral carving on the mitered edges which flows to mitered front feet. The off white with grey veined marble top has rounded edges as well. On top of the cabinet under the marble the chest is signed by hand "Sylund & Doll Buffalo,NY" as well as several pencil signatures of what is suspected all the cabinet makers involved in turning out this marvel. The piece is in excellent condition with a 2 inch hairline brown scratch on the front of the marble-very minute.Measures 50.5L X 34H X 21.25D.
