Item/Description: Autographed book of sketches by photojournalist and artist, Lisl Steiner. Contains nine sketches of iconic composers and musicians and a two introduction pages in English and Austro-German. The sketches were done over the course of fifty years from 1949-1999. Steiner dedicated her sketches to Dr. Gerda Mraz, Director of the Portrait Collection der Osterreichischen National Bibliothek. The inside paper cover is autographed by the artist in pen with her handwritten dedication to Berto, Joseph. Gabriella and Geffrey.
Lisl Steiner (1927 –2023) was a Jewish Austrian-born American photographer, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker known for her photographs of political and cultural figures of the 1950s and 60s including Fidel Castro, Oscar Niemeyer, Louis Armstrong, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Richard Nixon. Soon after Hitler' s annexation of Austria in 1938, Steiner and her family emigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied art at the University of Buenos Aires and the Fernando Fader School of Decorative Arts.
