<B>Signed Letter from René Clair.</B></I> Typed letter in French, dated March 28, 1935, to actress Jeanne de Casalis from producer/director/writer/actor René Clair -- perhaps best-remembered as director/writer of <I>Les Belles de Nuit</B></I> (1952). In the correspondence, Clair apologizes to de Casalis for his tardy response, and declines the offer to direct a drama written by R.C. Sherriff; she more than likely sent him a draft of Sherriff's play <I>St. Helena,</B></I> which de Casalis would star in a year later, in 1936. Clean blue ink signature on Clair's personal stationery.
