Manufactured in 1940 and subsequently beautifully engraved and gold inlaid. The receiver is engraved with floral scroll designs with a matte background. The left side also has a scene of two gold inlaid hunting dogs and right side has two gold inlaid pheasants. Each side also has gold inlaid wire bordering and accents. The lower left side is signed "M COHVANT". The right rear of the barrel has a two inch wedge of the same floral scroll engraving and there is a gold wire band around the muzzle. The left rear of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL -WINCHESTER (gold inlaid)- MODEL 12 - 28 GA." with "2 7/8 CHAM." above the gauge marking and "SKEET" below. The upper right side at the breech is marked with the two line address/patent dates. The top of the receiver and left breech end of the barrel are marked with the Winchester oval proof. The bottom of the magazine tube and receiver are marked with the gold inlaid matching serial number, as well as gold inlaid "SKEET" on the bottom of the receiver. The trigger guard is decorated with a gold inlaid wire design. Red bead front and steel bead mid sights on the matte solid rib, jeweled bolt and follower, and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a metal Winchester grip cap and black checkered plastic Winchester buttplate.

Professionally embellished with 98% blue finish remaining, showing some thinning to plum on the barrel. All of the gold inlay remains. The wood is very good with some crazing, a small area of varnish loss on the left side of the stock. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine.
