This is a nice example of a Colt Single Action Army revolver originally manufactured in 1874 and subsequently custom engraved and embellished by renowned cattle brand engraver David W. Harris. Harris was taught the art of cattle brand engraving by Weldon Bledsoe, who had in turn learned the art from Cole Agee, the originator of the cattle brand engraving. The revolver is nearly completely covered with cattle brand engraving. The brands are well executed in the typical western style with the recognizable Running "W", "2 Lazy 2 P", "XIT", "101", "HIT" and many other famous Texas brands with intermixed floral scroll designs and a punch dot background. There is a star burst on the trigger guard and the butt is signed "DW HARRIS". The only surfaces not covered are the front grip strap and the cylinder flutes. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line Colt address and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by "U.S.". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Standard blade and frame notch sights, all nickel finish and fitted with a one-piece ivory grip with horseshoe medallions.
