<B>Andrew Johnson and His Cabinet</B></I> Signatures by President <B>Andrew Johnson </B></I>and members of his Cabinet: <B>William H. Seward</B></I>, Secretary of State; <B>Hugh McCullough</B></I>, Secretary of Treasury; <B>Edwin M. Stanton</B></I>, Secretary of War; <B>Gideon Welles</B></I>, Secretary of the Navy; and Attorney General <B>Henry Stanbery</B></I>. All signatures on a single sheet, 5.5" x 8.5", with most signers adding dates (except for Johnson, and Seward who adds his hometown "<I>Auburn</B></I>") all circa March 1867. Ironically, it was during this time that the Republican-dominated Congress passed the Tenure of Office Act over the President's veto. The bill prohibited the president from removing officials confirmed by the Senate without approval. Later that year, Johnson would challenge the bill by making Ulysses S. Grant Secretary of War in place of Stanton. A great grouping of signatures, ideal for the collector of political Americana!
