ALS, one page, 6.25 x 7.75, May 20, 1927. Letter, in German, to Doctor Paul Federn. In full: “I am asking you to answer this letter of my client properly in your capacity as my representative.” In fine condition, with a central horizontal mailing fold through top portion of signature, tiny staple holes to top right, and some scattered toning and light soiling.

Perhaps Freud was too busy writing about fetishes, or waiting for The Future of an Illusion to be published, but for whatever reason, he turned to Federn, an Austrian American psychologist, for assistance. Federn was deeply influenced by Freud’s work, and by the time this correspondence was sent, he had been dedicated to the field of psychoanalysis for more than 20 years. In 1924, he became vice president of the Vienna Society and, as evidenced by this letter, one of Freud's official representatives. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
