DS, nineteen pages, 8.5 x 14, October 15, 1962. Agreement defining the "gross receipts" as related to Poitier's compensation for the 1963 film The Lilies of the Field. Signed at the conclusion in ballpoint by the film's director/producer, Ralph Nelson, and by its leading man, Sidney Poitier. Also initialed by both three times throughout the document. The last page has been stapled to the front of the complete document. In fine condition. For his role as Homer Smith, an itinerant handyman who builds a chapel on a farm run by nuns, Poitier was awarded the 1964 Academy Award for Best Actor—making him the first African-American to win a Best Actor award, and the second to win any Oscar (after Hattie McDaniel's prize for Gone With the Wind). A superb piece associated with Poitier's historic role.
