Heavy Bronze rings with inner detailing such as these only were made in Sichuan. They were a form of bullion coin for local use and when two were joined together like this they had a proto-Daoist meaning of "joining this life with the spirit life in the next world". Good patina, strong and durable, this joined pair show the small break at one edge where the casting sprue was broken off and took a bit of the outer circle with it (some seen have some of the sprue "spur" still attached). 3-3/8" long x 1-5/8" wide. Purchased in Sichuan before 1997.
