Diameter 7 3/4 in.

In this double-walled bowl, the interior wall was hammered to a size large enough that it could extend at an angle outward from its topmost level to form the flat upper rim. It was then lapped over to create a joint with the exterior wall just below this rim. The excellent craftsmanship with which this was done gives the vessel a finely finished appearance. The repoussé design was executed on the outer wall before the two were joined. This interesting décor represents rather large displayed lobster monsters among flying birds. A double circle is in the center base. An ancient repair, now covered by a layer of corrosion, is visible inside, extending two-and-three-fourths of an inch along the rim. There is some cracking with minor losses, and at least one modern fill is on the exterior. There is heavy corrosion inside, with moderate corrosion outside. In a number of places both inside and outside, especially nearer the rim, there are intermittent residues of the original viscous red paint coating.

Provenance
Splendors of the World, Haiku, Hawaii
