Show Boat (Universal, 1929). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Originally shot as a silent, this film was based on the novel and not the Broadway play/ musical. After the film was complete, Carl Laemmle added some of the original tunes from the Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein musical that was still running on Broadway. This is the "Little Egypt" card, with gorgeous shots of La Plante, Alma Rubens and the Cotton Blossom as well. Little Egypt (or Fatima as she was known on the Burlesque circuit) introduced American audiences to her unique and famous dance, the belly dance or the hootcy-kootchy. This may be the only example of this famous dancer to ever actually appear on a lobby card. This beautiful hand-tinted card has small edge tears, some corner wrinkling with a small chip, and some small light stains. Very Good/Fine.
