Antique c 1822 Chinese Pottery, Clay Miniature Figures Boy on Buffalo, Salvaged from Tek Sing Shipwreck
Antique figures of boy on a water buffalo. Boy is depicted as wearing a straw cloak. Although rendered in a wonderfully naive style, these boys show a lot of character. Pigments and glaze remain on these figurines, despite the time spent under the ocean.
He has broken his leg and had a successful reattachment. He stands well now. This damage assumed to have occurred during salvage from ocean floor.
TEK SING SHIPWRECK (The book shown will be provided to the buyer upon request) c.1822. Salvaged from the 1822 shipwreck of the TEK SING Trading Junk
This lot is part of the recently salvaged cargo from the 1822 South China Sea shipping disaster. It was purchased as part of the Nagel Auction House auction. The ship was a CHINESE TRADING JUNK, named the TEK SING. The shipwreck lost 1800 lives and a huge cargo of Chinese porcelain and other ceramics. This cargo was recently salvaged and auctioned in Stuttgart, Germany by Nagel Auction House.
