Ship's Contract From 1794 for the Ship ''William''
18th century ship's contract, listing the sailors and their wages for a voyage in January 1794 for the ship ''William'', owned by wealthy New England merchant Moses Brown. Partially printed document lists William Pickett as the Master for the ship, for a journey from Newburyport, Massachusetts to Charleston, South Carolina, likely to transport lumber, meat, fish, and dry goods, Brown's chief exports, and bringing back sugar and molasses. Other crew members of the trip are listed, along with passengers and notes on verso, under the handwritten note listing ''Moses Brown Owner''. Moses Brown was a prominent shipbuilder and merchant from Newburyport, whose papers now reside at Harvard University. Document measures 12'' x 15.25''. Pinholes at intersecting folds and light wear. Overall in very good plus condition given age.
