Master's Journal - Of the Clipper Ship "Florence" of Boston. Philip Dumaresq, Master. Log of three voyages of this clipper ship. Hand-written by Captain Dumaresq and entirely legible at that, a manuscript on light blue paper. 140 leaves. 4to. Original 1/2 polished brown calf and marbled bds. The logs relate the Second, Third and Fourth voyages by this Clipper between Shanghai, Hong Kong, & New York. The ship was built at East Boston by Samuel Hall for J. & R. Forbes, & launched on Feb. 23, 1856. She was captained by Philip Dumaresq, a veteran shipmaster with dozens of voyages under his worthy belt including those on the Bald Eagle and Romance of the Sea. (See Howe & Mathews.) Near Fine and snuggly housed in a custom-made deep burnt orange cloth folding box Insert & Slipcase featuring a 1/4 crushed Morocco banded spine and gilt titles, About FINE.
