Shemp Howard (The Three Stooges) Personal Family Album Photos
Shemp Howard (The Three Stooges) Personal Family Album Photos Shemp Howard was actually the original "Stooge". The oldest of the three brothers who joined the legendary comedy-trio (Moe and Curly being the other two), As the only Stooge to establish a successful career as legitimate actor on his own, he left the troupe to continue his own work, but came back when Curly died at the height of their popularity. He was also the most stable of the group, having been married to his beloved wife Gertrude "Babe" Howard from 1925 until his death in 1955. Very much a professional and family man, Shemp led a private life, and his private memorabilia is extremely rare. This is an incredible collection of original photos taken from his personal family albums from his wife's collection. Most have never been seen before. They include intimate candied family shots of Shemp with his brothers and relatives, as well as Shemp "directing" his dog in his backyard, wearing an infant outfit, reading the trades in his living room, and fishing off the coast of Santa Monica. In this treasure chest is also an extremely rare photograph he took of his brother Curley in 1923 when Curley still had hair, as well as another photo he took of Curly years later sticking his tongue out while on a promotion tour. Also included are several behind the scene photos from some of Shemp's other films, including his costume test from "Arabian Nights" (1942), in which he played "Sinbad", a make-up "old age" test as the character of "Shorty" in one of his rare dramatic roles in "Pittsburg" (1942), starring opposite John Wayne and Marlene Dietrich, a rare photograph of Shemp on the set at Columbia Studios visiting his brothers Curley and Moe along with Larry Fine while making a Stooges short, a behind the scenes shot of Shemp filming "Private Buckaroo" (1942) with his good friend, Huntz Hall, a solemn Shemp at Vitaphone Studios signing a deal to star in a series of "Joe Palooka" short comedies, a candid photo of Shemp with Huntz Hall's wife, and two official original studio photos. Come with a Letter of Provenience from well-known Stooge expert and collector Dan Lange. The photos are in excellent condition, with normal patina aging, and come in various sizes from 3.5"x2.5" to 8"x10".
