The lot features an excellent Shawnee Native American Indian Hammer Poll Tomahawk dating to the 18th Century. Provenance: The piece was found to be an authentic 18th Century example by the experts at Binoche et Giquello where it was sold in their Art of the Indians of North America April 24, 2010 sale. The Binoche et Giquello experts stated this as being an authentic Plains Indian tomahawk from the 18th Century made from an American Revolutionary War wrought iron blade. The tomahawk hatchet shows a blacksmith forged wrought iron hammer poll axe head with broad axe design and dates to the American Revolutionary War. The head consist of an octagonal solid hammer poll end with curved eyelet hole and broad axe sharp blade. The axe head shows a rich authentic dark patina and signs of forging techniques. The tomahawk shows the original solid wood haft handle having a stripped finish and rich worn patinaed surface with various dark stains. The piece was purchased from the French auction by a renowned historic Native American artifacts and weapons private museum collector in Paris, France. The tomahawk measures 4.75" x 13.25".
